From 'Stop the Insanity' to Street Savvy

Susan Powter, who became a household name in the '90s with her electrifying infomercials and catchy slogan "stop the insanity," has taken an unexpected career turn. Once the queen of fitness TV, Powter now navigates the streets of Las Vegas as an Uber Eats driver, a twist that surprised many of her longtime fans.

“Nothing is beneath me,” she remarked on Today. “I will work, I will do anything.”

This transformation comes after a series of financial setbacks, including a bankruptcy filing in 1995, largely due to troubled business affairs and a divorce from former spouse Nic Villarreal. Reflecting on her past, Powter admits, "I take full responsibility. I never checked. I never said, ‘Where’s the money?’" She candidly shares that while there was some money, it was far from what her empire had generated.

Rising from the Ashes: A Comeback Story

After three decades away from the glitz and glam, Powter is back in the limelight with the documentary "Stop the Insanity: Finding Susan Powter," releasing on November 19. In a recent interview, she expressed newfound hope and determination. "Everything has changed," Powter told Today’s Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin. "Because I have hope—real hope. Possibility. Real possibility. And I’m proud that I survived. I didn’t think my energy would survive."

The documentary project has found support in none other than Jamie Lee Curtis, who executive produced the film. Powter shared Curtis's encouraging words, "Jamie Lee is the one who said to me, ‘You are alive. You survived.'" With this new chapter, Powter is optimistic about reviving her career, with a fresh perspective on managing her affairs more wisely.

Reinvention Inspiration: Celebrities with New Gigs

Powter's journey is reminiscent of other stars who've found unique paths post-celebrity. From Drew Barrymore's childhood coffee shop days in the Valley to Erik Estrada's stint as a reserve police officer in Idaho, many have ventured into unexpected careers. Even Stranger Things' Noah Schnapp moonlights as a lifeguard, finding grounding outside the supernatural.

These stories of transformation remind us that reinvention is always possible, and Powter's resilience is a shining example. Her comeback, coupled with the documentary's release, signals another chapter in a life characterized by bold moves and new beginnings.
