Amazon MGM Studios has made the dramatic decision to digitally remove Timothy Busfield from its upcoming romantic comedy, 'You Deserve Each Other.' This comes in the wake of Busfield facing serious charges of child sexual abuse. The film, adapted from Sarah Hogle's novel, revolves around a couple, played by Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy, who start having doubts just before their wedding. The supporting cast is a star-studded lineup featuring Hope Davis, Justin Long, Kyle MacLachlan, and Ana Gasteyer.
Busfield had already filmed his scenes as Bernie, the father of Fahy's character Naomi. However, following the allegations, Amazon is taking steps to edit him out. According to a report by Deadline Hollywood, this move follows Busfield's indictment on two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse, as detailed by a New Mexico warrant reviewed by Entertainment Weekly.
"The decision to remove Busfield is a clear stance from Amazon MGM on the importance of maintaining integrity and ethics in its productions," an industry insider noted.
The troubling charges against Busfield are linked to alleged inappropriate behavior with twin boys on the set of the Fox series 'The Cleaning Lady,' where Busfield served as an executive producer and guest star. The boys' mother has accused him of grooming her sons during the show's production period from 2022 to 2024. It was a doctor from the University of New Mexico Hospital who first flagged the issue, prompting an investigation in November 2024.
In a swift legal response, Busfield turned himself in to New Mexico authorities just four days after a warrant for his arrest was issued. Although he has not yet entered a formal plea, Busfield has proclaimed his innocence and is gearing up for a pre-trial detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
The fallout from the allegations has been swift and severe for Busfield. On the same day as his initial court appearance, his talent agency cut ties with him. Additionally, an episode of 'Law & Order: SVU' featuring Busfield has been pulled from its scheduled airdate, replaced by the subsequent week's episode. These developments were compounded by further accusations of sexual abuse from another minor.
Amidst these serious allegations, it's crucial to remember the resources available for victims. If child abuse is suspected, individuals are urged to contact the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline for support. The hotline is confidential, available 24/7, and offers assistance in more than 170 languages.
