You never know what might go down on the red carpet in Hollywood – or anywhere else in the world. Ariana Grande recently experienced a high-stakes moment at the 'Wicked: For Good' premiere in Singapore. The surprise wasn’t a wardrobe malfunction, but rather a man, Johnson Wen, lunging at her, grabbing the superstar around her neck and shoulders. Luckily, Grande's co-star Cynthia Erivo was there, stepping in to protect her.
Wen, known as "Pyjama Man," didn't stop after his first attempt. Video evidence shows him trying his luck again, leaping at the barricades a second time. Singapore authorities, however, were swift to act, arresting him on Friday. Wen, an Australian on a tourist visa, had a brief stint in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. He pleaded guilty to being a public nuisance, a charge accompanied by a three-month sentence potential.
"Attention-seeking, thinking only of yourself, and not the safety of others," the judge declared, making it clear that Singapore took a stand against this behavior.
Singapore's law came down hard on Wen, who has a history of similar antics. He's tried this stunt before – making scenes at the 2024 Olympics and rushing at notable figures like Katy Perry and The Weeknd. This time, however, Wen faced consequences, receiving a nine-day jail sentence, with an extra two days for his track record.
Ariana Grande, embodying that SoCal summer energy, didn't let the incident slow her down. The pop sensation continued with her promotional tour, gracefully sidestepping the drama. By the weekend, she was back in L.A., spotted at a Q&A session for the film in Century City and later enjoying the Governors Awards, where she was seen catching up with Tom Cruise.
The chaos seemed to have no lasting impact on Grande. As she gears up for the U.S. premiere of 'Wicked: For Good' in New York, fans are hopeful that the drama stays overseas.
