"Hollywood [is] sort of the epicenter of the woke left. I don’t think they’re doing the Democratic Party any favors," Maher told the California Post.

This tension was palpable at this year's Golden Globe Awards, where comedian Wanda Sykes took a playful jab at Maher while presenting the award for best stand-up comedy performance. Maher, whose work was nominated, is known for his biting critiques of both left and right ideologies. On his podcast 'Club Random,' Maher commented on how his candid approach isn't always embraced in "this woke town," but he's come to terms with it.

“I speak freely, and this woke town f–king hates that. And that’s okay. I’ve made my peace with that,” Maher said.

He extends this advice to figures like Governor Gavin Newsom, suggesting a more balanced approach could benefit both the Democratic Party and the country. Despite his criticisms, Maher maintains a nuanced perspective, critiquing the Trump administration's actions while avoiding the 'Trump derangement syndrome' he sees in much of Hollywood. "My whole personality, unlike a lot of the people out here, isn’t just Trump," he said.
