Soofer ran Abundant Blessings, a charity based in South Los Angeles, aimed at providing shelter and nutrition to the city's substantial homeless population. However, the charity's good intentions may have been overshadowed by Soofer's personal agenda.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, during a press briefing, laid out the charges against Soofer, highlighting the gravity of his alleged wire fraud – a crime that carries a potential 20-year prison sentence. "This wasn’t just about ramen noodles replacing nutritious meals," Essayli remarked, painting a picture of the stark contrast between Soofer’s extravagant expenses and the needs of those the charity was supposed to serve.

"He was living the high life while the people suffering, homeless on the streets with no shelter, no food, they're living out on the streets. People are literally dying, and this guy is out vacationing, buying homes, buying Range Rovers and going shopping," Essayli said.

The accusations against Soofer include faking invoices and splurging on luxuries, such as a $7 million mansion and a $125,000 Range Rover, while the homeless were left without proper food and housing. The charity received over $23 million in taxpayer funds, meant to deliver at least three nutritious meals a day to LA's homeless, but according to Essayli, that money was misappropriated.

On a cool California morning, Soofer was taken into custody at his lavish Los Angeles abode.
