Carmen Electra Takes on a New World

Carmen Electra isn't just exploring a new character; she's diving headfirst into a vibrant Latin world in the series 'Dear Killer Nannies.' Set amidst the chaos of Colombia, the intense narrative unfolds through the eyes of notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar Gaviria's son. With John Leguizamo stepping into Escobar's shoes, it's an emotional journey that reshapes the way we view traditional crime stories.

Electra brings life to the character of Margaret, a seemingly out-of-place white woman trying to navigate this challenging environment. "I felt like it was a really different role for me," she shared. "I was really excited to be in a movie with a Latin cast. We shot in Colombia, and it’s so beautiful there, and the people were so friendly." Her character's struggle to understand her surroundings mirrors Electra's own appreciation for the diverse cultures she encountered in Los Angeles.

“I know words, and I know phrases, but my character doesn’t know anything. It’s all in Spanish… It’s very confusing for her.”

Facing Fears: Working with Leguizamo

Despite the friendly vibes off-camera, Electra admitted that acting alongside John Leguizamo in his fierce portrayal of Escobar was daunting. "I was so scared. It was so terrifying," she confessed. Known for his comedic genius, Leguizamo brings a chilling authenticity to his role, and Electra was both challenged and inspired by his talent. "He’s amazing. He’s so, so talented," she praised. The synergy among the entire cast elevated the intensity of the scenes, marking a departure from what audiences typically expect from Leguizamo.

The language barrier presented its own set of challenges for Electra, forcing her to adapt quickly. "I’m used to hearing Spanish in Los Angeles, but Colombians speak it a little differently," she noted. Yet, this challenge was embraced with the help of director Pablo Fendrik, who ensured every scene resonated with authenticity.

Reflecting on Identity: Electra's Name Change

Beyond her role, Carmen Electra opened up about her decision to legally adopt the name given to her by pop icon Prince in the '90s. The decision to make 'Carmen Electra' her official name in 2024 was influenced by personal loss and a desire to honor her roots. "I didn’t want my parents to feel uncomfortable," she explained, reflecting on her mother's early passing and her father's long life.

Recalling her grandmother's wisdom, she shared how these family experiences shaped her perspective on life and identity. "My grandma used to always say ‘we're all gonna go at some point,’" Electra reminisced, expressing a hope to inherit the longevity that ran in her family.

In laughter, Electra imagined her future with a promise: "I’ll still be dancing on tables." It's this vibrant spirit that continues to define her journey both on and off-screen.
