Conservative talk show personality Dennis Prager has officially taken legal steps against Los Angeles' renowned Cedars Sinai Medical Center and two other medical facilities. Prager accuses these institutions of medical malpractice, claiming they failed to adequately treat a spinal injury he sustained, which led to "costly complications." This legal drama kicked off when Prager filed his suit in Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, on March 16, as first reported by Courthouse News Service.
The ordeal began in November 2024 when Prager slipped and fell backward after stepping out of the shower, resulting in a serious spinal injury. When admitted to the hospital, Prager reported that he "still had some feeling and ability to move his toes" but was otherwise unable to move his limbs or breathe independently. Initially, Prager expressed gratitude to his medical team and was told it was a "miracle" he could speak following the injury. However, in the lawsuit, he alleges that "critical errors" in his medical treatment are to blame for his inability to return to his radio show.
"He has been unable to return to work, he has been unable to get off of the ventilator for long enough to have even one three-hour conversation, and his ability to communicate and work in general has been grossly hindered," the complaint reads.
According to the lawsuit, Prager's journey to recovery has been fraught with hurdles. The injuries he sustained required numerous surgical interventions and have rendered him ineligible for treatment at most rehabilitation and post-acute care facilities nationwide. What should have been a focused recovery phase has morphed into an extended period of medical management. Additionally, he claims to have developed ulcers on his back due to insufficient repositioning.
Moreover, Prager has extended his legal claims to include Barlow Respiratory Hospital – known for their expertise in ventilator weaning – and Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center. While the exact monetary damages Prager seeks remain unspecified, he has noted that his medical expenses have already surpassed $5 million, highlighting the financial and personal toll of this health crisis.
