Congressman Eric Swalwell, who has his eyes set on the California governor's mansion, now finds himself in hot water. Accusations of sexual misconduct have surfaced from multiple women, including a former staffer who alleges rape. The politician, however, stands firm, categorically denying all allegations, claiming they are strategically timed to derail his gubernatorial ambitions. "These allegations are false and come on the eve of an election against the frontrunner for governor," Swalwell said in a statement. "For nearly 20 years, I have served the public – as a prosecutor and a congressman and have always protected women."
The allegations against Swalwell paint a troubling picture. Among the accusers is a former staffer who alleged unwanted advances and inappropriate communications during her time at his district office in Castro Valley, California, back in 2019. A particularly concerning claim involves her blacking out after drinks with Swalwell and waking up in his hotel bed, feeling the effects of intercourse.
Adding to the chorus of accusations, Ally Sammarco has shared her experience, alleging inappropriate messages from the congressman following promises of career help. Two other women have also stepped forward, accusing Swalwell of harassment and unwanted touching, choosing to remain anonymous due to fears of retaliation.
In response to the growing scandal, Swalwell released a video addressing the allegations and issuing an apology to his wife, Brittany Watts. "I do not suggest to you in any way that I am perfect or that I’m a saint. I have certainly made mistakes in judgment in my past," he stated, asking for forgiveness from his wife for any distress caused. Meanwhile, Brittany has remained silent on the issue, choosing not to publicly comment.
The Democratic Party is not taking these allegations lightly. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats have urged Swalwell to withdraw from the governor's race, emphasizing the need for transparency in the investigation. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office has jumped into the fray, launching an investigation and calling for more victims or witnesses to come forward.
Ally Sammarco’s husband, Adam Parkhomenko, has been vocal in the aftermath, challenging Swalwell's denials and encouraging other potential victims to speak out. "She also went on the record with CNN so that hopefully this does not happen to other women and maybe it would help other women come forward," Parkhomenko wrote.
As 2026 unfolds, all eyes are on Swalwell, waiting to see how this political and personal drama plays out on the California stage.
