Legal Trouble Brewing in the Arts District

The Downtown LA Law Group, nestled in Los Angeles' creative Arts District, isn't just known for its towering success in personal injury law. It's now caught in a legal tempest as one of its founding partners, Salar Hendizadeh, faces serious charges from the California State Bar. The allegations suggest he helped sign up clients across state lines where the firm lacked the necessary legal credentials.

This legal drama has its roots in March 5 when Hendizadeh was charged with 11 counts, including deceptive advertising and charging illegal fees. "If proven, these allegations represent dishonest and illegal conduct," stated State Bar Chief Trial Counsel George Cardona. The firm, which Hendizadeh left last fall, has remained tight-lipped about the charges.

Out-of-State Practices Under Scrutiny

So, what's the scoop? The firm allegedly branded itself as "Texas’s #1 Injury Law Firm" while operating under "Lone Star Injury Law Firm" in Texas, despite not having the legal chops in the Lone Star State. Though LA attorney Darren McBratney was licensed in Texas, he departed in early 2022, leaving the firm to allegedly continue misrepresenting its capabilities.

The absence of proper legal representation led to a slew of dissatisfied clients across various states. One Maryland client was lured with promises of a $1 million case value, only to be disillusioned by a $160,000 settlement offer that couldn't even cover her medical expenses.

More Investigations on the Horizon

As if this wasn't enough, the DTLA Law Group is under the microscope for another investigation. This time, it's tied to a historic $4-billion sexual abuse settlement involving Los Angeles County. Allegations of paying clients to file possibly fabricated claims have put the firm in a tight spot, yet it firmly denies any misconduct.

Founded by Daniel Azizi, Farid Yaghoubtil, and their childhood pal Hendizadeh, the firm has become a legal powerhouse since 2013. Despite the charges focusing on Hendizadeh, the complaint also sheds some light on Yaghoubtil's actions, who reportedly sought referral fees from a client who had to find new representation after the firm failed to file her case in a timely manner.

As this legal saga unfolds, the DTLA Law Group remains under a cloud of suspicion, with investigations from the State Bar and district attorney's office keeping the legal community on edge.
