Jeff Dye Waves Goodbye to Hollywood

Comedian Jeff Dye is packing up and heading east to the Lone Star State, joining the flow of entertainers seeking fresh pastures outside Los Angeles. On November 2, during a candid conversation on 'The Joe Rogan Experience,' the 42-year-old star of 'The Wedding Year' opened up about his plans to move to Texas, expressing deep concerns about the trajectory of the Golden State under Governor Gavin Newsom's leadership.

“I’m kind of in this LA thing, and I could be guilty of being a victim of what I’m absorbing in my algorithm. But Gavin Newsom scares the s–t out of me and I don’t want to be a part of it,” Dye confessed.

Dye didn't hold back his criticism, especially regarding the state and city's handling of the devastating fires that scorched parts of LA this past January. The comedian found the response – or lack thereof – alarming, particularly the management issues that plagued firefighting efforts.

The Flames of Frustration

The fires in Los Angeles were a frightening wake-up call, burning through over 55,000 acres, destroying more than 16,000 buildings, and tragically claiming at least 29 lives. The Palisades and Eaton Fires were among the worst, with the latter decimating an overwhelming number of homes and lives. Governor Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass faced harsh criticism for their approach to these recurring disasters, with many pointing fingers at inadequate preparations and resource allocation.

Jeff Dye's move follows a wave of celebrity relocations, echoing the sentiments of many who have grown weary of California's challenges. Former talk show host Rosie O'Donnell and famed comedian Ellen DeGeneres have also left the US in recent years, citing political and social concerns.

Celebrity Moves: A New Chapter for Some

Rosie O'Donnell took to TikTok earlier this year to share her experience of leaving the U.S. for Ireland, a move she says has brought a sense of peace and acceptance. Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi traded their California digs for a tranquil life in England's Cotswolds, a decision solidified after the re-election of Donald Trump.

Despite the distance and challenges of adapting to new environments, these celebrities are finding solace in their decisions to leave familiar grounds. "It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say," O'Donnell said of her time in Ireland. "And the people have been so loving, so kind, and so welcoming. I'm very grateful."

While Dye's move to Texas is fueled by different factors, it follows a similar narrative – one of seeking a fresh start, and perhaps a more hopeful future away from the glitz and unpredictability of Hollywood.
