Hilary Duff is finally sharing her thoughts about Ashley Tisdale French's viral essay that sent mom groups buzzing across LA. The "So Yesterday" hitmaker poured her heart out on the Call Her Daddy podcast, delving into the emotional rollercoaster sparked by Tisdale French's revealing words.
“I felt really sad. I honestly felt really sad,” Duff said of the situation. “I was pretty taken aback and felt just sad.”
Duff's candid revelation comes in the wake of Tisdale French's essay for The Cut, published on January 1, where she penned her experience of stepping back from a mom group that had taken a negative turn. Fans quickly jumped to conclusions, linking Duff's Instagram posts featuring Tisdale French, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor as potential group members.
Discussing the essay's impact, Duff reflected on her wide circle of friends, emphasizing the support she's had over the years. “I have my core group of friends who have been my ride or die for 10 to 20 years,” she explained, “and I have tons of different groups of mom friends, because I have four kids, you know?” Despite this, Duff admitted the essay was hard to digest.
“So, I think I just was like, ‘Whoa,’” she shared. “It sucks to read something that's not true, and it sucks on behalf of, like, six women and all of their lives.”
Adding a touch of Malibu-style drama, Duff's husband, Matthew Koma, stirred the pot when he humorously inserted himself into the narrative, posting a photo of his face over Tisdale French's on social media. "Read my new interview with [The Cut]. A mom group tell-all through a father's eyes," was his cheeky caption, though Duff later clarified she had no idea about his playful antics.
“No. Honestly, everything he does makes me laugh. So I was like, ‘Oh, my God. Oh, my God,’” she recalled. “But I also don't censor him, and I don't tell him what he can and can't post. He is so fierce for me, and I love him for that.”
Duff didn't hold back when asked if she wanted to clear the air about the situation. “Nope. I think it came at like the craziest time where I was like, the timing felt not great, and I felt used,” she firmly stated.
