Jennifer Lopez has been a dazzling fixture on both the music and film scenes, but there's one area she’s been vying to conquer – the musical film genre. In a candid chat during a promo event for her latest flick, "Kiss of the Spider Woman," Lopez revealed she’s finally stepping into the world of musicals, marking a career milestone.
Her journey to this point, however, wasn’t without its hiccups. J.Lo, who’s known for hits like “I’m Real,” shared a behind-the-scenes moment from her early career. She recalled auditioning for the musical film "Evita," directed by Alan Parker. "I’ve been practicing for weeks, and sing my heart out, and did my thing," Lopez said.
“And he goes, ‘You’re amazing. You know Madonna has the part, right?’”
Lopez, always sporting her signature charm, responded with a smile, "OK, bye-bye. Nice to meet you!" It seems like the universe had other plans, as Lopez now gears up for her role in "Kiss of the Spider Woman," which hits theaters on October 10.
As J.Lo steps into this new chapter, she’s channeling the spirit of Chita Rivera, the original star of the 1993 Broadway adaptation. "This is a first time, and it couldn’t have been a better one for me, I don’t think," Lopez mused about her timely casting.
The film, which premiered to standing ovations at Sundance, seems to be a tailor-made opportunity. Early reviews have praised Lopez’s performance as dazzling, noting that it just might be "the role she was born to play." With the movie set to hit the screens soon, fans are eagerly anticipating seeing J.Lo shine in a role that fulfills her childhood dreams.
So, while Madonna may have scored the lead in "Evita," it's clear that J.Lo is hitting the right notes with her new project, setting the stage for an exciting era in her illustrious career.
