When it comes to Hollywood friendships, some shine brighter than the city lights of Los Angeles, and that's exactly the case with actress Kate Hudson and LA Lakers co-owner Jeanie Buss. Jeanie, a powerhouse sports executive at 64, has been a close confidante and supporter of Kate, offering her guidance and protection over the years. This real-life bond actually inspired Kate's role in the sports-comedy TV series 'Running Point,' where she plays the President of the fictional Los Angeles Waves.
“She was always someone that was very protective of me," Kate shared with People. "She kind of put her arm around me and made sure I stayed out of trouble. But then to come back at this time in our life and have this experience together has been really, really wonderful and very, very cosy, I guess is the word.”
Kate isn't the only star on 'Running Point' who's found inspiration and transformation. Brenda Song, who plays Ali Lee, a chief of staff in the show, revealed that she was at a career "crossroads" before landing the role. The Netflix series, centered on a reformed party girl managing a professional basketball team, has given her career a new direction.
“I always said I've worked my whole life for this moment being able to work on a project where I love the subject matter so much, being such a huge [Los Angeles] Lakers fan,” Brenda told Extra. "The role arrived at the perfect time in my life.”
For Brenda, working with co-creator Mindy Kaling and Kate has been more than just a professional highlight – it's been a personal boost. "I was actually at such a crossroads just feeling like, 'I just had two kids.' Just feeling like, ‘Where do I fit in this industry?' And chatting with Mindy and working with Kate, these two women inspire me on such a personal level outside of all of this craziness," she explained.
With such excitement and camaraderie behind the scenes, it's no wonder why 'Running Point' resonates with LA's vibrant and ever-evolving entertainment landscape. And who knows? With a bit of Hollywood magic, we might just see more seasons to come.
