The Humble Beginnings of a Hollywood Star

Kurt Russell, a name synonymous with Hollywood success, never forgets his modest roots. His journey began far from the glitz and glam of Hollywood – in the cozy confines of a log cabin in Rangeley, Maine. Built by his grandparents back in 1939, it was there that his family's story started, with his dad playing professional baseball until an injury changed their course forever.

In a candid chat with the Wall Street Journal, Russell reminisced about his childhood days, which included living in the attic of a family friend's house in East Los Angeles. "Our family started out in Rangeley, Maine," he shared. "We lived in a log cabin that my grandparents built in 1939. My dad played professional baseball in the minor leagues, until an injury forced him to stop."

"After his injury, he went to Florida to watch spring training and wound up cast in a movie playing an umpire. He and my mom, Louise, packed us up and we took off for California. I was 3 or 4. Dad was determined to become an actor," Russell continued.

From Attic Life to Acting Roles

The family’s transition to the West Coast wasn’t all red carpets and movie sets. For two years, the Russells called an attic in East LA home, a far cry from the sprawling estates often associated with LA living. But perseverance paid off – Kurt’s dad, Bing, eventually saved enough to buy a home in Pacoima, located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley.

It wasn't long before Kurt caught the acting bug himself. At just 10 years old, he snagged his first role in the TV sitcom "Our Man Higgins." His paycheck? A cool $110, which he used to buy two new Schwinn bikes for him and his sister, Jill. "I called my father's agent and said, ‘Count me in, I like this,’" Kurt fondly recalled of his early foray into acting.

Today, Kurt Russell stands tall among the icons of the entertainment world. He's currently sharing the screen with Michelle Pfeiffer in Taylor Sheridan's latest project, "The Madison."

Reflecting on Life and Love

With decades of Hollywood experience under his belt, Russell now finds himself pondering life’s bigger questions. Speaking to Men's Health, he expressed his connection to his character, Preston Clyburn, in "The Madison," revealing the existential thoughts that aging brings.

"As you get older and you've only got so much time left, that doubles things up in terms of looking at what you've done in your life so far and what you want to do with the rest of your life," he mused.

Russell also drew parallels between his on-screen relationships and his real-life romance with Goldie Hawn – a love story spanning over 40 years. Conversations with co-star Michelle Pfeiffer made him reflect on the enduring nature of his relationship with Hawn. "Their relationship, it's the kind of relationship you almost never see anymore. It's a truly loving relationship. It's not like there's another shoe to drop," he said, emphasizing the rare and unbreakable bond they share.

As Russell continues to captivate audiences, his reflections serve as a reminder of where he came from and the legacy he hopes to leave behind.
