California is no stranger to drama, and the latest saga involves YouTuber Benjamin Paul Schneider – better known as 'Reckless Ben' – who has become embroiled in a scandal involving a $200,000 Star Wars LEGO collection.
Schneider's journey from a local legal squabble to an international viral sensation began when he accused Bricks & Minifigs (BAM), a major LEGO resale chain, of improperly seizing the valuable collection. This sparked a wave of online uproar against the company, leading to a cascade of threats and controversy that has rippled across the nation.
"This is not about the controversy itself. People are entitled to their opinions, but our Sacramento store was not involved in that situation," shared a BAM Sacramento general manager, emphasizing the toll the harassment has taken on employees and their families.
The heat has landed squarely on BAM, with locations nationwide feeling the pressure. The Sacramento branch, in particular, decided to shut its doors temporarily as threats targeted employees and their families. The general manager's plea for harassment to end highlights the widespread impact of the drama originally centered around a single disputed consignment agreement in Keizer, Oregon.
The storyline took a twist when BAM's corporate office terminated the franchise agreement in 2024, installing new management unaware of the previous deal. Reckless Ben transformed into a DIY detective, creating a series of viral videos and even staging protests at the homes of company owners, all in his quest to unravel the mystery behind the LEGO collection.
The conflict escalated further with legal actions against Schneider, including a gag order and civil lawsuits, culminating in a no-bail arrest warrant. Facing mounting pressure, the YouTuber decided to seek sanctuary in Mexico, temporarily escaping the legal storm brewing around him.
Despite the tumult, Schneider remains undeterred, as he claimed in a video, "Some of the best lawyers in the United States are reaching out to me right now." His campaign, bolstered by a successful GoFundMe that raised over $489,000, aims to assist the Mansell family in retrieving their cherished LEGO sets and cover the ongoing legal fees.
