Mandy Moore, the beloved actress known for her roles in This Is Us, recently opened up on her "That Was Us" podcast about a surreal experience she had while giving birth. With a podcast episode that’s bound to stir conversations around Southern California, Moore delved into the details of her hospital visit, which involved a surprising cast change at the last minute. “I ended up in the hospital, but it just meant my whole birth team had to change,” the 42-year-old actress shared. Despite her hopes for midwific care at Cedars-Sinai, she was left with a doctor she didn’t quite vibe with.
Moore recalled a moment that felt more LA than labor – her doctor scrolling on his phone while she was deep in the throes of pushing. “I’ll never forget. I was like, ‘Am I bothering you?’” she recounted with a laugh. With the midwife by her side, Moore was taken aback by the doctor’s apparent disinterest, especially as he mentioned missing out on a "lobster truck outside" between contractions.
“You should have hit him in the chest with a baby,” joked her co-host Chris Sullivan, while Sterling K. Brown chimed in, “Men, what’s up?”
Moore’s candid recounting of her childbirth experience drew laughs and gasps alike from her co-hosts and audience. Her former This Is Us colleagues were quick to question the doctor's priorities, adding a touch of humor to the otherwise frustrating tale.
Despite the unusual hospital experience, Moore is soaking up life as a mom to her three children – sons Gus and Ozzie, and daughter Louise. She expressed a bittersweet sentiment about not expanding her family further, sharing on Instagram, “I am endlessly grateful for my beautiful family AND there’s a certain sadness knowing I’m done having babies.”
Moore’s journey into motherhood, which included being told she had a "slim chance" of conceiving, has been a powerful narrative for many. Her reflections on having children later in life are both relatable and inspiring, echoing the experiences of many women in Los Angeles and beyond.
As she navigates this new chapter, Moore continues to share her unique voice and experiences, proving that even in the land of glitz and glam, life has its very real, raw moments.
