A Star Born in Music: The Spandau Ballet Era

Martin Kemp first strutted into the spotlight back in 1979 as the bass guitarist for the iconic New Wave band, Spandau Ballet. Alongside band members including his brother Gary Kemp, Steve Norman, John Keeble, and Michael Ellison, Martin helped pen hits like "True," "Gold," and "Through the Barricades." While Tony Hadley belted out tunes until 2017, the band enjoyed global acclaim, performing at legendary events like Live Aid in 1985. It was here that Kemp recalls making a "fatal mistake" – introducing a new song to an audience of two billion, a move he humorously describes as the "butterfly effect."

“You knew that was the biggest day in music ever and that it would be remembered forever," Martin remarked about the momentous occasion.

Lights, Camera, Action: Kemp's Acting Odyssey

After rocking stages worldwide, Kemp shifted gears towards acting in the '90s. Alongside his brother, he starred as the infamous Kray twins in "The Krays," then made waves in L.A. with roles on "The Outer Limits" and "Highlander: The Series." But it was his portrayal of Steve Owen on "EastEnders" that solidified his acting chops, marking his UK return in 1995. Although a few years away from the screen followed, Kemp reignited his career with roles in "The Bill" and later, a coveted presentation role on Greatest Hits Radio. Notably, during a stint on "I'm a Celebrity," Martin revealed he was nearly cast as James Bond – a role ultimately clinched by Pierce Brosnan.

The Kemp Family: A Legacy of Fame

Martin Kemp isn't the only star in his household. Married to Shirlie Kemp, former Wham! backup singer and part of the duo Pepsi & Shirlie, the couple shares two talented children, Roman and Harley Moon. Roman, a popular Capital FM and TV presenter, joined his father on "Celebrity Gogglebox" and in the jungle on "I'm a Celebrity." Harley Moon shines in the country music scene with hits like "My Girls (love me better)" and "Fast Fwd." Both siblings are currently racing around the globe on BBC's "Celebrity Race Across the World." With 37 years of marriage under their belt, Martin and Shirlie's family remains a force in entertainment.
