Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the enigmatic fashion icons and former child stars, graced the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York City with their understated elegance. Despite the glitz of the evening, the 39-year-old designers opted to skip the red carpet, choosing instead to enter quietly at the American Museum of Natural History. Wearing coordinated black coats from their acclaimed label, The Row, the sisters accepted the prestigious American Accessory Designer of the Year award – just one of many accolades they've garnered over their illustrious careers.
In true Olsen fashion, the twins showcased their brand by wearing distinct yet cohesive pieces. Ashley donned the brand’s $5,500 Erdene tuxedo-style coat, adorned with a satin shawl collar, while Mary-Kate chose a similarly striking version with structured shoulders and front darts. Beneath these chic coats, simplicity was key – Mary-Kate went for a crisp white ensemble, while Ashley opted for classic black. Their refined looks were elevated with exquisite vintage Cartier jewelry, including Ashley’s Art Deco jadeite and diamond brooch and Mary-Kate’s citrine and diamond necklace, which collectively exuded timeless elegance.
“To our amazing customers who truly give us the opportunity to do what we love, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you,” Mary-Kate expressed during their acceptance speech.
Both sisters began their journey in the entertainment industry as infants, only to step away from the Hollywood spotlight at 18. Their move to New York and subsequent launch of The Row in 2006 marked a defining shift into the fashion world. As Ashley explained in a 2021 i-D interview, they embraced the opportunity to explore new interests and carve out a niche distinct from their early fame. This transition has been driven by their perfectionist nature, as Mary-Kate noted, always striving for impeccable craftsmanship in every piece.
Outside their fashion realm, the Olsen twins have maintained a low-profile lifestyle. Ashley, who welcomed her first child with artist Louis Eisner in 2023, enjoys a private family life. Meanwhile, Mary-Kate, after finalizing her divorce from Olivier Sarkozy in 2021, focuses on her work and New York life. Her purported relationship with Sean Avery was dismissed as mere long-standing friendship. Despite living away from the Hollywood glitter, the Olsens continue to captivate with their style and mystique.
