Rob Lowe seemed to stop time as he hit the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, promoting his latest flick, "The Musical." At 61, the actor showed off his youthful vigor, cutting a dashing figure in a slick black pinstripe suit and an open-neck black shirt. His effortlessly styled hair and light stubble further highlighted his timeless charm that has captivated fans for decades.
“Most of us were kid actors ourselves and have experienced what the kids experience in the film of not getting the part [in the musical] that they’d like,” Lowe shared with Variety. “I never made it out of the chorus. So getting to be around kids, when we were once those kids, is really fun and satisfying.”
Beside him, Sheryl Berkoff, his wife of over thirty years, matched his rock-and-roll vibe with her all-black ensemble. The couple, who are rarely spotted at such events, looked relaxed as they posed on the red carpet at the Eccles Center Theater. Their appearance felt like a genuine, down-to-earth moment amidst the Sundance glamour.
"The Musical," directed by Giselle Bonilla and penned by Alexander Heller, is Rob's return to the indie comedy scene. The film spins a tale of a school principal embroiled in a comedy of errors, with Rob's character caught between a middle-school teacher's ambitions and a chaotic rivalry. Starring alongside Lowe are talents like Tony Award winner Will Brill and "Community" star Gillian Jacobs.
Thanks to fresh tax breaks for indie films, Rob savored the chance to shoot "The Musical" without leaving the City of Angels. This opened up a door for more creative freedom and made the production more viable. "This is going to sound incredibly self-serving, but a large part of the budget for tax credit is above the line," Rob explained, emphasizing the importance of these incentives for sustaining production in L.A.
While "The Musical" drew eyes with its cheeky humor, Rob's rejuvenated look also stole the show. With his poised demeanor and undeniable star power, Lowe reminded everyone why he's still a Hollywood favorite – ageless, and ever at the top of his game.
