Savannah Guthrie has made her way back to social media after a nearly three-week hiatus, driven by the ongoing search for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie. Amid this personal turmoil, the Today co-anchor, aged 54, found a moment to share an inspiring clip on her Instagram Stories in support of World Down Syndrome Day.
The segment aired on Friday, March 20, and featured Guthrie’s co-hosts connecting with members of Best Buddies, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Guthrie, who serves as an ambassador for the organization, has maintained a long-standing friendship with Tara, a Best Buddies participant, for about a decade.
"We love this sign, because we know how much you love Savannah," said Hoda Kotb to Tara, who displayed a heartfelt sign reading, "We love you Savannah," during the emotional segment.
The segment was not only a nod to Guthrie's advocacy but highlighted her deep personal connection to the cause. Guthrie reacted to the touching moment with a series of yellow heart emojis, showing her appreciation and support. As her co-host Hoda Kotb noted, "Tomorrow's World Down Syndrome Day and we're marking it early with some friends from Best Buddies."
Savannah has been working with Best Buddies for many years and her warm bond with Tara was evident as a photo of the duo flashed on the screen, prompting Craig Melvin to share, "Savannah has worked with Best Buddies for many years now and has been best buddies with Tara for about a decade."
While Savannah navigates these meaningful moments, her mother's disappearance continues to weigh heavily. Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31 after being dropped off at her Tucson, Arizona home. The authorities suspect a potential kidnapping, supported by surveillance footage capturing a masked man at her doorstep.
In the wake of her absence, Savannah has leaned on the Today community. Hoda Kotb has stepped up to fill Savannah's shoes alongside Craig Melvin since February 6, with Sheinelle Jones joining the ranks as well.
Guthrie’s last Instagram post on March 2 showed yellow flowers outside her mother's home, paired with a heartfelt plea: "We feel the love and prayers from our neighbors, from the Tucson community and from around the country. Please don’t stop praying and hoping with us. Bring her home."
