Allegations of a Courtroom Conspiracy

Los Angeles tech executives and siblings, Bahar and Bardia Dejban, are stirring up a storm that's rattling the legal corridors from SoCal to Texas. They've filed a bombshell lawsuit alleging their justice was sabotaged by a secret love affair between a powerful Texas judge and a big-shot lawyer. The Dejbans, who made waves with their e-commerce startup, now claim this clandestine romance torpedoed their case, leaving them high and dry.

The Dejbans' lawsuit, freshly filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, targets the Texas-based law powerhouse, Jackson Walker LLP, along with its former partners Elizabeth Freeman and Matthew Cavenaugh. The twins allege these key players colluded with a federal bankruptcy judge in a grand scheme to manipulate court proceedings and stonewall their pursuit of justice.

“It was a calculated move designed to exploit a secret personal relationship and rig the outcome,” the complaint asserts.

Inside the Alleged Scheme

Bardia and Bahar, who once held top positions at Volusion, paint a picture of professional betrayal and personal devastation. They claim that back in 2020, they were unjustly shoved out of their roles, leading to a whirlwind of wrongful termination and defamation accusations in California. Bardia, the former CEO, talks about losing his life's work, while Bahar, who served as general counsel, recounts episodes of panic attacks and professional alienation.

But the plot thickens – the Dejbans allege that before they could stand before a judge in California, the deck was stacked against them. Jackson Walker, they claim, conspired with Judge David R. Jones to corral the case into his courtroom and shut down any attempts at seeking relief elsewhere.

The Fallout from a Secret Affair

The scandal first rolled into the public eye in 2023, when a federal ethics probe accused Judge Jones and Elizabeth Freeman of maintaining a long-term secret relationship. Property records and anonymous tips pointed to shared property ownership and a web of influence that raised eyebrows. As if straight out of a Hollywood script, the judge resigned just days after the probe start, and the legal world was left reeling.

The US Trustee’s Office began moves to recover over $23 million in fees earned by Jackson Walker in cases overseen by this very judge. Now, the Dejbans' new lawsuit, one of the first to personally call out Freeman, Cavenaugh, and Jackson Walker, seeks both financial reparation and a rightful dose of accountability.

Amidst this legal drama, Jackson Walker LLP has yet to comment on these fresh allegations, though they previously denied any knowledge of Freeman's affair with Judge Jones. As the saga unfolds, all eyes remain glued to this courtroom thriller with real-life consequences.
