Smokey Robinson's legal troubles are escalating as two new plaintiffs have emerged in the ongoing lawsuit against the Motown legend. In a surprising twist, one of the new accusers is a man, adding a new dimension to the case. This development comes six months after Robinson was initially accused by four former employees of sexual assault and other serious allegations.
The original lawsuit, filed on May 6 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, seeks a staggering $50 million. The quartet of women who first came forward accuse Robinson of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence, and maintaining a hostile work environment. Both Robinson and his wife have firmly denied all allegations against them.
On November 14, legal documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly revealed that the complaint has been expanded to include two additional claimants. The new allegations suggest that both individuals, a man and a woman, were subjected to repeated sexual assaults by the singer.
Jane Doe 5, the latest female accuser, claims she was persistently harassed while working as a housekeeper for Robinson from 2005 to 2011. She alleges that Robinson would frequently ask her to join him in the shower and attempted to force her to touch him inappropriately. As a result of this alleged abuse, she claims to have undergone breast reduction surgery to cope with the trauma.
John Doe 1, the first male accuser, says he was hired to detail the Robinsons' cars in Chatsworth in 2013. He alleges that Robinson made unwelcome sexual advances and that the harassment continued even after he initially left the job. The accuser says he returned to work for the couple after being called back by Robinson’s wife, Frances, only to face further humiliation and emotional distress.
"These plaintiffs are part of the same group of people who have conspired together against the Robinsons," stated Christopher Frost, Robinson's attorney, who has criticized the plaintiffs' anonymity and their lawyers' quest for publicity.
The next hearing is scheduled for January 6, 2026, and anticipation is building around what could be revealed in court.
In a bold counter-move, Robinson filed a $500 million countersuit against the original accusers, accusing them of defamation and financial elder abuse. The singer and his wife vehemently deny any wrongdoing, asserting that the accusers' claims are baseless and driven by greed.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed that Robinson is under criminal investigation, a development that only adds to the tension surrounding this high-profile case. As the saga continues, the entertainment world watches closely, awaiting the next chapter in this unfolding legal drama.
