Spencer Pratt, the reality star known for his antics on MTV's The Hills, is stepping into the political spotlight. Announcing his candidacy for Los Angeles mayor earlier this week, Pratt declared his intention to run a non-partisan campaign. Despite being registered as a Republican since 2020, the 42-year-old insists he won't let party lines dictate his actions if elected.
With the echoes of Hollywood Boulevard and the scent of SoCal's endless summer in the air, Pratt took to social media platform X to share his vision. "I've been in the public eye for most of my life and there isn't any dirt you can find on me that hasn't already been aired," he posted. "Seems like the only thing people don't know is my voter registration, so here goes: I registered Republican in 2020 and never changed it."
“This is a non-partisan race – there will be no D or R next to my name. As Mayor, I will not serve either party. I will work with anyone who wants to help the City. No labels necessary.”
Pratt's announcement coincided with a somber anniversary – the first year since the devastating Los Angeles fires that claimed the home he shared with wife Heidi Montag. The timing underlines his motivation to address what he describes as a "fundamentally broken" system.
Pratt's mayoral campaign isn't just about winning votes; it's positioned as a mission to overhaul a system he claims favors the elite while ordinary Angelenos suffer. "Business as usual is a death sentence in Los Angeles," he declared, promising to expose systemic failures and push for real change.
However, his bid has sparked criticism. Douglas Herman, strategist for current mayor Karen Bass, dismissed Pratt's campaign as a publicity stunt. "It's no shock that in advance of his imminent book release, a reality TV 'villain'... would now announce he's running for Mayor," Herman remarked.
As the city buzzes with election energy, only time will tell if Pratt’s unconventional appeal will resonate with the voters of Los Angeles or fade into the backdrop of Tinseltown’s political stage.
