A Marathon to Remember

American Nathan Martin delivered an unforgettable performance at the 41st Los Angeles Marathon, taking the men's title in a nail-biting finish. Martin's electrifying sprint in Century City saw him edge out Michael Kimani Kamau of Kenya by just 0.01 seconds – a margin so slim it left onlookers in awe. With a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 16.50 seconds, Martin etched his name into the race's history books, marking the closest finish ever.

“In any race, I just want to give 100%,” shared Martin, reflecting on his intense finish. “I saw an opportunity to race at the end and give one last push. All I wanted to do is push myself.”

Not one to shy away from competition, Martin's strategic move five miles out helped him close the gap on Kamau. As they neared the finish line, Martin's determination was palpable, capturing the attention and admiration of fans lining the route from Dodger Stadium to Santa Monica Boulevard.

Women's Race: Cherono's Dominance

While Martin's victory was a thriller, the women's race saw Kenyan Priscah Cherono dominate with ease. Waving her arms in triumph, Cherono crossed the finish line in 2:25:18.31 – a significant lead over her competitors. Her commanding performance earned her a $10,000 bonus for being the first runner across the line, male or female, in this unique Marathon Chase.

“I was feeling OK and I felt I could take it all the way,” said Cherono, who also triumphed at The Marathon Project in 2023. Celebrating International Women's Day with her victory, Cherono has become a beacon of endurance and inspiration, training solo but conquering the course with style.

Wheelchair Racers and Other Highlights

In the wheelchair division, 25-year-old Miguel Jimenez Vergara clinched the men's title with a 1:42:13.28 finish. Building on last year's lessons, Jimenez Vergara took control at Mile 4 and never looked back, leaving previous champion Luis Francisco Sanclemente behind.

The L.A. Marathon, with its vibrant route showcasing Los Angeles from downtown to Century City, once again provided a backdrop for these extraordinary feats of athleticism. Drawing 27,000 runners and countless spectators, this year's race was a testament to the city's enduring love for this iconic event.
