Tori Spelling, the iconic Beverly Hills, 90210 star, is in the midst of finalizing her divorce from Dean McDermott. Yet, in true SoCal fashion, the pair seem to have a laid-back approach to co-parenting. Unlike many celebrity splits that spiral into infamous Hollywood dramas, Tori and Dean are keeping their cool.
At the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball, Tori shared her thoughts on their modern family dynamic. "I watched families go through horror stories with the parents, and at the end of the day, you created beings because you had so much love between you," she revealed. Despite their separation, the former couple continues to engage in family dinners and activities, putting their five kids—Liam, Stella, Hattie, Finn, and Beau—first.
"We love and care about each other so much, and I was shocked just because I always read horror stories and everyone predicted it to be so messy, the divorce, and it was super easy and loving," Tori remarked.
However, as their personal relationship remains amicable, the same can't be said for their financial situation. Court documents have unveiled that Tori and Dean are buried under a mountain of debt totaling over $1.7 million in unpaid federal and state taxes.
The couple owes approximately $1.2 million to the IRS and more than $500,000 to the California Franchise Tax Board, with both debts being split evenly. Beyond that, they must tackle debts to American Express and City National Bank, and each faces individual financial obligations.
For Tori, this includes $288,000 owed to a private individual and other liabilities, while Dean contends with student loans and medical bills. The financial complexities underscore the challenges they face as they work towards finalizing their divorce.
In a candid interview with the Daily Mail in 2023, Dean McDermott opened up about the struggles that led to their separation. He revealed that financial woes, coupled with his battles with alcohol and drug addiction, placed a significant strain on their relationship.
Dean took responsibility for the difficulties, acknowledging Tori's unwavering support throughout his hard times. "All Tori's ever done to this day is want me to be happy and healthy," he admitted, adding, "I'm taking accountability for that today. And it's the biggest amend that I'm ever going to have to make."
As Tori and Dean navigate the remaining stages of their divorce, their ability to co-parent harmoniously might just be the silver lining amidst financial turmoil.
