Anna Kendrick to Helm 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo'

Get ready for some Hollywood sparkle, folks! Anna Kendrick is set to direct the highly-anticipated Netflix adaptation of 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo'. This move follows the unexpected departure of two previously attached filmmakers, Maggie Betts and Leslye Headland, for undisclosed reasons.

A Classic Tale of Old Hollywood Glamour

Based on Taylor Jenkins Reid's 2017 bestseller, this story dives deep into the life of a fictional Old Hollywood star, Evelyn Hugo. As she grants one final interview to an obscure journalist, she spills the tea on her seven infamous marriages and serves up some showbiz drama, betrayal, and hidden truths – perfectly fit for the glitz and glam of Tinseltown.

“Fans have been buzzing about casting, with many hoping for Jessica Chastain as Evelyn, although she’s previously dismissed the idea,” shared a Hollywood insider.

Script and Production Details

Netflix nabbed the rights back in 2022, but the project has been on a rocky journey to production. As of now, casting remains a mystery, though the fan buzz is palpable. Liz Tigelaar took a crack at the initial screenplay, and Francesca Sloane is currently refining it.

This will be Reid's second novel turned onscreen spectacle, following Amazon's 'Daisy Jones & the Six'. Alongside Reid, the executive production line-up includes Margaret Chernin, Liza Chasin of 3Dot Productions, and Brad Mendelsohn from Circle Management + Productions.

Anna Kendrick's Directorial Journey

While Kendrick is renowned for her acting chops in 'Pitch Perfect' and the 'Twilight' saga, she's no stranger to calling the shots behind the camera. Her directorial debut, 'Woman of the Hour', was a hit at the Toronto Film Festival, snatching an eight-figure deal from Netflix. As she continues to make waves in Hollywood, fans can also catch her soon in Chris Rock’s drama 'Misty Green' and Lauren Miller Rogen’s comedy 'Babies'.
