Clay Aiken might have secured his spot in pop culture as the runner-up on the second season of "American Idol," but it's his son, Parker, who's keeping the spotlight on him in the most unexpected ways. Even though Aiken's fame ignited back in the early 2000s, the legacy of being a household name seems to be alive and well in his family.

Aiken recently sat down at PauseRewind studios, chatting with Kevin Zelman about all things "Idol" and what it's like for his son to discover the famous world around him. "He's always known Dad was famous, but he had no idea why," Aiken shared with a chuckle. "He saw me perform live when he was three, because I was touring when he was really young."

“He comes from a family where he's had plenty of famous family members, you know. His uncle is David Foster. His aunt now is Kat McPhee, who came in second on ‘Idol.’ Parker's grown up around it. He's important. He's impressed by very little of it."

A Moment of Embarrassment on a Train

One memorable incident unfolded during a cross-country train trip from Los Angeles to North Carolina when Parker was in the second grade. Aiken recalls how they joined strangers in the dining car, and Parker, with youthful innocence, announced, "My daddy's famous!" much to Aiken's surprise and slight embarrassment.

Reflecting on the incident, Aiken said, "I was so embarrassed. We did have a little talk about how, you know, we don't necessarily say that to people. If someone's famous, you don't have to tell people you're famous, because that's part of the thing. I don't know where he heard it from, but he heard it somewhere, and he doesn't give a flying crap."

Back in the Music Scene
