The Metro Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) is pulling out all the stops for its 2026 edition, as it prepares to honor the legendary Lea Salonga with the prestigious Icon Award. The star-studded event is set to take place on September 6 at the iconic Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California – a fitting location to celebrate such a monumental achievement.
Lisa Lew, the Executive Producer of MIFF, shared her excitement about celebrating Lea's illustrious career. "From sweeping major theater awards to voicing classic Disney heroines and starring on screens across both the U.S. and the Philippines, she is the ultimate ambassador for Filipino excellence," Lew stated. "The Manila International Film Festival is proud to champion Lea's achievements through our Hollywood Walk of Fame nomination, and we look forward to celebrating her legacy with our Icon Award at the Closing Night Gala."
Notably, MIFF was also responsible for nominating Lea for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This accolade places her in the spotlight as the first Filipino born and raised in the Philippines to receive such an honor – a testament to her enduring influence and talent.
Despite her many accomplishments, Lea admitted in a previous interview that this recognition still feels like a dream. "I still don't believe that it happened. At first, I thought somebody was pranking me, kasi it's something that I didn't expect, that I would get kasi most of my work is in New York and Manila because I'm not exactly a Hollywood person. But I'm happy that it's going to happen," she expressed.
This upcoming recognition at the festival is not just a personal victory for Salonga, but a proud moment for Filipino talent on an international stage. With her voice and performances resonating across theatres and cinemas worldwide, Lea Salonga continues to inspire and break boundaries.
