The vibrant city of Los Angeles is about to witness a unique blend of sports and philanthropy as Dodgers' very own Mookie Betts swaps his bat for a pickleball paddle. On Thursday, June 18, Betts will host the much-anticipated second annual "Smash for Good" Pickleball Tournament at the posh Griffin Club in LA. This isn't just another sports event – it's a star-studded affair with a cause dear to Betts' heart.
Joining Betts on the pickleball court will be an array of familiar faces from sports and entertainment. Expect to see Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, Marvel's charismatic Simu Liu, NFL legend Terrell Owens, and the multi-talented Evan Ross, among others. Betts' own Dodgers teammates and alumni are set to make appearances, adding to the SoCal summer energy. Celebrity pickleball coach Matt “McNasty” Manasse will ensure the games are as engaging as the Hollywood red carpet.
“This is more than just a game. It’s about advancing the kids who might not otherwise get the chance," Betts passionately shared, highlighting the foundation's mission.
The proceeds from this exciting day will support the 50/50 Foundation, a brainchild of Mookie and Brianna Betts. Established in 2021, the foundation aims to uplift underserved youth through various programs including education, sports, and health initiatives. "With our philanthropic work throughout the Los Angeles community, we are making sure the next generation will have all they need to accomplish their goals," Brianna Betts emphasized.
The event promises more than just exhilarating pickleball action. Guests will indulge in live music, delectable food, and a live auction featuring exclusive experiences. They can also savor Providencia Tequila – co-owned by Mookie himself – alongside refreshing drinks from Blue Slugger Lemonade, Brianna's own venture. Red carpet arrivals kick off the event at 3:30 p.m., with matches commencing at 4:30 and a lively reception following at 6.
Remy Bourlier of Parker-Anderson Enrichment, a partner for the event, noted, "We’re proud to partner with the 50/50 Foundation because we share a commitment to helping young people thrive." Together, they aim to expand their impact across Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
So, if you're in LA and looking to witness some Malibu-style drama on the court while supporting a fantastic cause, the "Smash for Good" tournament is the place to be.
